Friday Night's Alright For Finals

Camden Beach Sports season has finished with a bang this year, with over 150 people attending the Grand Finals at Camden Sports Club last Friday night. It was an unprecedented showcase of almost all the sports on offer on the sand (Touch Footy season continues after Christmas).
To start the night off, Swifts played against Dynamite Diamonds in the final of the newest sport, Mixed Beach Netball. Dynamite Diamonds, a team of junior girls from the Camden Netball Association were overpowered in the end by the more senior Swifts team. The Swifts combination of senior netball players, basketballers and rugby league players proved a formidable force winning the final 39 - 13. Congratulations to Mitchell Parnell, Nick Crouch, Nic Geist, Shanaye Faber, Natasha Howe, Matt Thornton, Holly Mathews, Todd Pes and Bronny Jones on a fantastic first season.
Second up were the Beach Volleyball finals and with all 3 matches being played at the same time, there was plenty of great volleyball to watch. This season 18 teams battled it out across 3 divisions, making volleyball the most popular sport of the year. The Men's final was a contest between the Quick Flip Guns, a combination of guys from 3 division 1 mixed teams, and Double Benetration, a team returning to the competition after a year off following a win as the Rockstars in the mixed comp in 2009. Although playing 3 players on 4, Double Benetration were victorious in the end, 2 sets to 1. Division 1 Mixed was a contest between the Flip Flops and defending champions Sandpit Warriors. The Warriors like the men were a player short, however this time it proved costly and the champions were defeated 2 sets to 1. Division 2 Mixed was played between Sand Blasters and G-Bangers. It was a great season from the Sand Blasters, who had 2 first time players in their side. G-Bangers were just too strong in the final however winning 3 set to 0. Thankyou to Karl Palin and Matt Weatherburn for umpiring 2 of the finals matches on the night.
As the sun began to set, it was time to turn on the lights and let the Beach Soccer players do battle. Over 80 people surrounded the sand for the Mixed Soccer Grand Final, contested between RMT and Donaven. With 3 first half goals Donaven seemed in control of the match, but after conceding a penalty in their own half they let RMT into the game with striker Jasmine Haines finishing off a shot by Megan Simpson to get their team within 1 goal of the opposition. The final 5 minutes were very tight, with the crowd hanging on every shot. In the end Donaven managed to hold onto the game 4 - 3.
It was getting late and the BBQ was just about out of gas, but there was still the Men's Soccer final to go. Wii Not Fit were attempting to win their 3rd consecutive title, but 6-on-tha-Beach stood in their way. 6-on-tha-Beach have been unlucky the past 2 seasons, losing in the semi-finals both times to the Raging Fats. They made the most of their first grand final appearance by taking an early lead. Wii Not Fit can never be written off, as only 3 weeks prior, with only 5 minutes to play, they came from 4 goals down to win a match against Debbie FC. The second half became very intense and Wii Not Fit were never going to give up. At the final whistle it was 6-on-tha-Beach who had just managed to hold out the previous champions 7 - 6.
I would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support of Beach Sports at the Camden Sports Club, and hope we an continue to grow in number in 2011.
A huge THANKYOU to all the local businesses who helped provide prizes for all the winners in 2010, as well as the sponsors of our players t-shirts which were introduced this year.
New competitions will begin in Feb 2011. Numbers across all sports are limited so if you want to enter a team for next year please contact Ben - 0404 439 170 as early as possible in the new year.

HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY AND SAFE NEW YEAR

Gearing Up For Spring Comps!! (Netball, Volleyball, Soccer, Footy)

Hi Everyone,

The weather is beginning to show signs of warming up.... finally!! As the winter sports' seasons draw to a close, it's time again to gear up for Spring Beach Sports Competitions at Camden Sports Club. This year started off with a bang with a record number of teams competing in both the Soccer and Volleyball Competitions. Hopefully, we can all come together to maintain this momentum into the warmer months of September, October, November and December.
This spring there are a few new items on the menu to satisfy every body's sporting appetite. Thanks to the growing number of Junior players in Soccer, I will be introducing an Under 18's & Under 15's Soccer competition. Men's Volleyball will also be added to the repertoire to provide an outlet for those who would like to play a more aggressive game on the Beach.
Beach Netball will be on offer again this year for the Ladies, creating an opportunity to be involved in a brand new sport in Australia. The final added extra this year will be a Beach Tennis Comp. on Sunday afternoons. It is time to build up some local talent to take to Melbourne in 2011 for the Beach Tennis Australian Open Tournament.
On August 14th, Camden Beach Sports, in conjunction with Camden Sports Club, Camden Bowling Club & the Camden Sporties Social Golf Club will be holding an OPEN DAY!! On this day there will be the opportunity to try out our sports or watch an exhibition match. There will be a BBQ lunch available, free lawn bowls, live music and a meat raffle. Also there will be a lucky door prize and, as a special offer on the day, Club Membership will be reduced to just $2.20.

2010 Competitions to begin on February 15...

Happy New Year Everyone!!

The year 2010 promises to bring some exciting new changes to Camden Beach Sports with new sports set to take off this year and the growing support from local businesses will see each player recieve a 2010 members t-shirt. We also hope to provide weekly give-aways and a bigger and better prizes throughout the year. Registration this year will be $45/season or $70/year.

Towards the end of last year co-founder Aaron Oswald stepped down as partner of Camden Beach Sports to persue a career in advertising. Congratulations and best wishes mate!! The void that Aaron left was temporarily filled by a number of casual staff, as you may well have met them, Jasmine Haines, Melissa Connor, James Davenport & Kirsty Silverstone. Thanks heaps for your help guys, I couldn't have done it without you!! In the 2010 I am joined by my father Laurie Geist to help organise and run the busy competition schedule, along with taking social bookings, birthday parties and barefoot bowl.

The first big change for 2010 will be the way fees are paid each week. Previously each individual has had to pay a match fee each week, however almost 25% of participants have had discrepancies over fees paid and fees owed over the past few seasons. To combat this problem, we are now going to implement a Team Match Fee, to be paid in full before each game by the team captain. A reciept of payment will be issued and will need to be presented to the referee before each game can begin. Team match fee are as follows: Soccer, Touch Football, Netball, Cricket - $60/game, Volleyball - $30, Tennis - $15.

Also this year we are also going to introduce more divisions in each sport to keep each team competitive and maximise the enjoyment for everyone. Last year we split the Soccer in two, with a mixed competition and a more competitive men's competition. This year we plan to follow suit with Touch Football, as well as splitting the Volleyball competition into an advance and a beginners grade. The NEW beginners division will include playing with five players on the court and introducing a first-serve fault.

Registrations are being taken until Feb 13th, with trial matches being played from 8th-12th. To register download a team rego form and an individual rego form for each player, and drop them into the sports club, or call and arrange to meet me before trial games begin. Call: 0404439170, Email: camdenbeachsports@gmail.com.

Hope we have a great year of sport, and that we can continue growing this great social sporting communitee.
