Cold Outside, but Hot Competition for the Finals of Autumn Season...

Friday night, 17th June 2011, saw the Camden Sports Club play host to the Autumn Beach Sports Season Grand Finals, with the top 2 teams from all of the Camden Beach Sports competitions facing off to be crowned the "Winners".
The Volleyball finals kicked off what was to be a great night on the sand. Division 1 saw the defending champions Flip Flops take on close friends, yet arch rivals, Top Guns, and after 3 very close sets Top Guns were victorious. Division 2 was a slightly shorter affair, with Free Ballin' defeating Tune Squad in just 2 sets, however to their credit Tune Squad did push their opponents all the way in the second set which ended 28 - 26 (usually first to 25, but with a lead of 2).
Next up was the Mixed Touch Footy final and newcomers Sand Gropers had a hard task on their hands against 2 time defending champions Touchy Feely. The game remained very tight in the first half the score only 3-1 at half time. Experience showed in the second half and although not many more trys were scored Touchy Feely grinded out their 3rd win in a row.
With two more games to go and the temperature dropping fast it was time for the Mixed Beach Soccer final. Black Bullets took on the red and white army, The Raging Fats. The Raging Fats had been close to glory on a number of occasions in previous seasons, and it looked as though they would fall short again, as the Black Bullets got away to an early lead. With just a few minute left in normal time Matt Weatherburn from the Raging Fats scored a fantastic goal from halfway to tie the game and force extra time. After 2 more minutes each way and no goals scored the match would be decided by a penalty shoot-out. With just 3 strikers each to begin with, it seemed as if we would struggle to separate the teams, but The Raging Fats keeper, Matt King, kept his cool and saved the 3rd shot from the Black Bullets to win the game for his team. Well done guys on putting on the most spectacular match in Beach Sports history.
Finally the Men's Soccer Final kicked off at almost 9pm. Defending champions Six-on-tha-Beach took on newcomers DTF (Down To Football). After scoring of the very first kick-off, DTF looked quite good early, boasting some of the best strikers that Beach Soccer has ever seen. Six-on-tha-Beach however have had alot more experience at the sandy version of the game, and in the end that experience proved the difference. Six-on-the-Beach winning their second consecutive final 6-3.
We also ran a lucky door prize on the night, with five lucky players winning free registration for the next season. Congratulations: Jamie Monk, Chris Hamilton, Cindy Geer, Troy Wade and Matt King. Camden Beach sports will have a short break through the Winter months, but will return in September. Sports on offer next season will include: Soccer (Mixed & Men's), Volleyball (Mixed & Men's), Touch Footy (Mixed) and Netball (Mixed & Women's).
